Live Hacking with aramido at the Karlsruhe Security Initiative KA-IT-Si

To protect data from unauthorized access, Microsoft's BitLocker and Apple's FileVault enable its encryption – for mobile devices in a business environment, this is often a compliance requirement. Only those who know the password can access the data. That this is a misconception, security researchers showed as early as 2008: if they had physical access to a computer that was switched on or „sleeping“ (standby mode), they could read the password from the working memory. Ten years after this discovery, so-called Cold Boot attacks are still possible.

Christoph Biedl, Daniel Matesic, and Andreas Sperber from aramido will live-demonstrate such an attack on a computer with disk encryption and provide tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of a Cold Boot attack. Whether Windows, macOS, or Linux: all those who rely on disk encryption are affected.

The live hacking takes place on April 11 from 6 PM as part of the Karlsruhe IT Security Initiative. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity for professional and personal exchange during buffet networking.
