What does Data Privacy mean?
Data privacy is an area of IT compliance that aims to protect personal data from misuse. The legal basis for data protection in Germany is primarily the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the fundamental right to informational self-determination. The latter was derived by the Federal Constitutional Court in the 1983 census ruling from the general right to personality. As of May 25, 2018, the BDSG is largely superseded by the already adopted EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
