What does Penetration Testing mean?
Penetration testing is a special form of IT security testing . Unlike an automated vulnerability scan , IT systems such as web applications, servers, or networks are manually examined using individual methods.
For the classification of penetration tests, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) provides a categorization based on information base (black-box/white-box), aggressiveness, scope, methodology, technique, and starting point. Which configuration is recommended for each test is determined by aramido's security consultants during the proposal preparation, as the configuration of a penetration test depends on a multitude of individual factors.
Penetration testing is also known under the spellings penetration test , pentest, and pen test. Additionally, the terms red teaming, ethical hacking, friendly hacking, white hat hacking, and IT security audit are often used synonymously.
